Research-backed B2B outbound

Motion is for teams that sell to local and commercial service businesses. It reads each company's own website, shows the page behind the facts it reads there, and holds a personalized line it cannot back up. Mailboxes start on a low daily limit, and a campaign is paused when bounces or complaints pass a set rate.

No card. Email sends from a sending account you connect.

Who it is for

For anyone who sells to service businesses

Local and commercial service companies are the market Motion is built around. You describe the sector in your own words, so the list is not limited to a fixed menu of industries.

Suppliers and service providers

You sell equipment, supplies, insurance or a service that a local operator buys. Your buyers are owner-run companies that are hard to find in a contact database built for enterprise sales.

Software and agencies

You sell software or marketing to service businesses. Find can filter on the software a company already uses, confirmed on its own website, so you can write to the right ones about the right thing.

Acquirers

You are looking for service businesses to buy and need to reach their owners. Build a list by sector and place, then write to each one from what its own site says.

Sectors people describe

  • commercial cleaning
  • landscaping
  • pest control
  • facility services
  • auto repair
  • dental practices
  • law firms
  • insurance agencies

How it works

From a brief to a reply

Four steps, and you can stop and check the work at each one.

  1. 01

    Describe who you sell to

Write a brief in plain words. It becomes filters you can edit: sector, keywords, city, state, and software a company does or does not use. Before anything runs you see a cost estimate and set a spend cap.

  2. 02

Each company is read from its own site

Find reads the company website and checks it against your brief. Fields read from the site show the page they came from. A company that does not fit is left out of the list. The run shows how many sites were read and how many were full matches.

  3. 03

    Drafts cite their facts

A personalized line written for you has to point at a fact that was read from the company. A check runs before sending: a draft passes, is held for your review, or is blocked. Blocked drafts cannot be approved. Text you write yourself in a template is not checked.

  4. 04

Send from your account, then work the replies

Email leaves from mailboxes in a sending account you connect with your own key. Replies are sorted into positive, negative, out of office and unsubscribe. Mark a deal won and its amount is tied to the campaign.

Why the research holds up

Every field names its source

A row count cannot be checked. A source can. Motion labels each value with where it came from: a page on the company website, or the provider that returned it.

Read from the company, not copied from a listing

In a Find list, company fields come from the company website. Web search is used only to find that website, and the search results are not stored. A map listing or a review site is not read as a company website.

A page you can open, or a named provider

A field read from the company website carries the page it was read from and when, so you can open the page and check it. Contact details from a provider are labeled with that provider and the time. They have no page to open.

A written line that cannot cite is held

The writer returns the facts it used with each draft. If a personalized line it wrote does not match a stored fact, the draft is held for you or blocked before it can send.

Where we are thinner

The research behind a draft is shallow today. It reads the company's home page: the title, the description and the main headline. Deeper company profiles are being built. Find returns up to 100 companies per run. Named contacts come from contact providers on your own keys, so coverage depends on the providers you connect. If you need a very large database of named contacts in one place, this is not that.

Sending safety

The checks fail closed

If the suppression list cannot be read, or a mailbox limit cannot be confirmed with your sending account, the send is refused. It is not let through.

Before a campaign can send

  • When a campaign is checked for launch, each address needs a verified result. A result more than 30 days old is not accepted at that check. A passed check is reused for up to 24 hours.
  • A campaign cannot launch without a sender postal address, and it is refused if the unsubscribe link is not set up.
  • Suppressed addresses are removed at enrollment and checked again before the campaign starts. An opt-out in one campaign applies to all of your campaigns.
  • By default only recipients in the United States are enrolled. A recipient whose country is unknown is left out.

While it is sending

  • By default a mailbox is limited to 10 messages a day at first, rising by 5 every 3 days to 30 a day.
  • A campaign is paused when bounces pass 5 percent or complaints pass 0.3 percent of its last 200 sends, once at least 20 have gone out.
  • When a spam complaint is reported back, the campaign is paused and the address is suppressed. A safety pause is not lifted until you acknowledge it.
  • Campaigns are created with open and click tracking off, as plain text.

Reporting

Reporting that ends at revenue

Motion scores a campaign on replies and positive replies. Opens are not part of the score. When a campaign tests two versions of a step, the winner is called on positive replies, and only once each version has enough sends.

When you mark a deal won on the board and enter its amount, the revenue is matched to the lead and to the campaign that started the conversation. The ROI page shows won revenue per campaign.

Pricing

Free now, with a spend cap you set

Motion is free during early access and there is nothing to buy yet. The costs you do have are with the providers you connect: your sending account, and the contact and verification providers you choose. A paid plan will come later. Its price is not set.

Early access
Freeno card, no seat, no contract
  • Finding companies is not billed: the search, the site reads and the software checks cost you nothing.
  • Contact lookups and email checks run on your own provider keys, and your provider bills you. Some charge per result found and some per lookup.
  • Before a Find run starts you see an estimate with each step priced, and you set a spend cap.
  • In the enrichment table, a filled field uses one credit. A field that comes back empty uses none.

Free workspaces have a monthly limit on new recipients.

What Motion cannot do today

Email is the only channel. During early access we switch on sending for each workspace by hand, so a new account can build company lists first. You can import contacts from a file. Import from HubSpot, Pipedrive or Attio with an access token works once your workspace is switched on.

FAQ

Common questions

Who is this for?

Teams that sell to local and commercial service businesses in the United States: suppliers, software companies, agencies, insurers and other service providers. It also suits acquirers who want to reach the owners of such businesses. You describe the sector yourself, for example commercial cleaning companies in Ohio or dental practices in Phoenix.

Which sending account can I connect?

Smartlead. It is the only sending account wired through launch, pause and reply tracking today. You connect it with your own API key, so your mailboxes, warmup and sending reputation stay in the account you own.

Can I send on the day I sign up?

Not yet. During early access we switch on sending for each workspace by hand. Before that you can import a list from a file and run Find to get companies. Contact lookup, email verification and sending start once your workspace is switched on.

Am I buying a contact database?

No. Find builds each list when you ask for it, by reading company websites. Contact emails come from contact providers on your own keys. That is why this page talks about sources and does not quote a number of records.

What does bringing my own keys change?

Your keys are encrypted before they are stored, and a key is read only for the workspace that saved it. Providers bill you directly at your rates. If you do not connect a model key, writing runs on ours.

What happens when a check cannot run?

For two checks the send is refused: a suppression list that cannot be read, and a mailbox limit that cannot be confirmed with your sending account. Verification works differently. A campaign does not pass its launch check while an address lacks a verified result, and that check is reused for up to 24 hours. The sending window is different again. If it cannot be set, your sending account uses its own default window.

Describe the companies you want to reach

Write one brief. Motion finds the companies, shows where each fact came from, and holds any draft that needs your eye before it sends.
